Spices are great to cook with, and they are Super Foods! as they promote and boost your digestion, they also have healing qualities and make a simple dish look good and taste like heaven! The downside, it can be overwhelming to get to know them and how to cook with them. In this blog post I share with you an awesome, easy and practical ayurvedic spice home made recipe that can give you all the goodness of the spices without the hassle!
One the great things of living at the Sivananda yoga ashram in Europe was the opportunity to learn from some of the best and most inspiring yoga and ayurvedic practitioners in the world. This recipe I learned from Ayurvedacharyas Dr Sanjay Kulkarni and his wife Dr. Anjani Kulkarni. from the Shruti Ayurved Clinic in Pune India. They are regular speakers at the Sivananda ashrams in Europe.
So get yourself ready.. and lets spice it up!
1tsp - Oil
3 tbs - Coriander seeds
2 tbs - Cumin Seeds
1/2 tbs - Black paper corns
1/2 tbs - Fenugreek seeds
6 to 8 - Bay leaves
1 inch long - cinnamon stick broken into small pieces
1/2 tbs - Cardamon Seeds
1 tbs - Dry shredded coconut
Done, as simple as that. This spice can be stored for months and the best part is that it can be used in little amounts, not only in dal (1tsp for one cup Dal) but also for kitchery, veggies etc. And by the way kids love the flavour :)
