Recipes that are delicious, simple, nutritious, easy to make and to make life easy, is the common interest of the students attending our Yogic Diet Vegetarian Cooking Workshops and Ayurvedic Cooking Workshops.
Making sure we follow a healthy diet that fulfills not only the needs of our physical body but also of our spiritual development through the yoga practice, is of paramount importance.
So this week's blog '3 Seeds to Sprout Your Life' is about a Simple, Natural and Wholesome yogic food that is easy to make and probably for some of you already available in your kitchen's cabinets.
Sesame, Pumpkin & Sunflower Seeds, doesn't sound to exciting? Wait until you start eating them they are really yummy and super easy to make. You'll love them ;)
They are not only yogic foods but also fall into the category of Super Foods. This seed trio are rich in:
Proteins - for healthy skin, hair and muscles and to help your body repair and create new cells.
Vitamins and Minerals - with good amounts of Copper involved in red blood cell formation to support the
healthy functioning of blood vessels, nerves and the immune system. Magnesium keeps the muscles functioning properly, neutralises toxins, supports the immune system and helps a steady flow of energy.
Fats - that help us absorb vitamins and give us energy.
They are great to eat in small quantities and tasty on any food: morning porridge, salads, grains, soups, veggies, dahls or on their own. You just need to sprinkle a little bit or as much as you want. They are also a good alternative when traveling.
Dry Roasted Mix
Dry roasting the seeds helps to eliminate moisture making them easy to digest, it also removes the chewy feeling when masticating.
So here is our very simple recipe:
1. Place your seeds into a pan (heavy bottom if possible) and dry roast until they are golden brown and you can smell their yummy flavour. It couldn't get any easier ;)
We usually make a big batch as they keep for long periods of time.
Let us know how you enjoy it!
